8 Carry-On Essentials for Light Air Travel

For years I’ve always envied people who are able to travel with only carry-on luggage. And to be honest, I was not only envious, but also confused. Very confused. How can women travel for more than one night with a 21″ rolling case? I mean, how does she manage to squeeze in all the unnecessary outfits that she will never wear during her trip? Doesn’t she want to bring her ionic blow dryer? Isn’t it tough to pack multiple shoes, especially with high heels? And what about ALL her beauty and skincare products? *gasp*  During my travels on numerous press trips, I have learned a few tricks that has allowed me to join the club of savvy travellers who are not chained to the bag carrousel at their destination. This learning curve has allowed me to fit all the necessities into just one carry-on bag, although I do also bring along a backpack or large tote along as my handbag to cram in anything else that may not fit in my rolling luggage. So since “sharing is caring” here’s some of carry-on MUST HAVES that makes me feel like I have the basics covered:

  1. Rimowa Limbo Multiwheel 22″: Traveling with carry-on can only be done if you have the right bag. I’ve long been a fan of Rimowa luggage for it’s aesthetic, functionality, durable materials, and superior quality. No matter the size or type of bag, Rimowa always offers tons of storage components it’s internal set, taking away some of the anxiety of traveling with one piece of luggage. The multiwheel feature allows the bag to glide seamless in tandem by your side or pulled from behind.
  2. Dermalogica Skincare: On shorter trips, I have learned to edit down my skincare to just a few products. This is a huge feat seeing as though I use anywhere between 15-20 products a day on my face at home. Traveling can cause stress, skin accumulates dirt and debris and we all know that cabin air during flights wreak havoc on skin so it’s important to travel with some options to keep your skin clean, clear and hydrated. Clear skin all lies in how you cleanse. Before washing my skin, I use cleansing wipes (not pictured above) and Dermalogica’s Precleanse. The latter’s nourishing olive, apricot, and kukui nut oils removes make-up, sunscreens and oil-based debris. Also, I love multi-duty products like Dermalogica’s Multivitamin Thermafoliant. This powerful, self-heating skin polisher has chemical and physical exfoliants to not only refine your skin’s texture but also promotes skin firmness and enhance the penetration of vitamins into the skin. The best part, it’s formulated without artificial fragrances and colours. $55 CDN for Precleanse $77 CDN for Multivitamin Therafoliant
  3. The Esteé Edit “Beam Team”: Ummm this product is absolutely brilliant if you dropping majority of your skincare products like third period French class to be able to travel checked-in luggage free. Beam Team is a double duty daily moisturizing lotion. The tube contains a lightweight illuminating and hydrating lotion and wait for it, if you flip the cap top you will find a flattering for all skin shades, highlighting balm. $42 CDN
  4. Jo Malone “Wild Bluebell” Cologne: Who doesn’t love scents by Jo Malone? The brand has a wide variety of colognes ranging from; citrus, floral, fruity, spicy, and woody that can satisfy just about any scent palette. One of my go-to’s when traveling is Wild Bluebell in the 1 floz (30ml) bottle. The size couldn’t be more perfect for travel, plus the light, fruity scent won’t overbear your in-flight neighbours. $65
  5. Hermés Belt: Why travel with multiple belts when you can have just one chic, reversible option. I love my double sided Hermés belt kid. I’ve had it for years. I have misplaced it three times and literally felt my heart stop beating each time I did. The epsom calfskin leather strap in black (with tan on the reversible side) with gold plated metal buckle, literally goes with everything. I can’t say it’s cheap but hey, it’s essentially two belts for the price of one, so it’s all about perspective right? $1,405 CDN
  6. Apple 11″ MacBook Laptop: Size matters. When I am not traveling I love have access to a desktop monitor or larger laptop screen when I’m traveling, the 11″ MacBook has become my trusty companion for both work and play (I mean, I still have to stay up to date with my fave shows when I am on the road). It’s much thinner, lighter, faster, and sleeker than it’s predecessors and also have improved graphic performance. If that’s not enough, up to 10 hours of battery life.
  7. The Barest Lip Colour by The Esteé Edit: You don’t need to travel with an army of lipsticks and lip pencils, trust me. When I have limited luggage space, I stick to just one lippy that I can easily rock from day to night. Loving this neutral shade by The Esteeé Edit which is available at $26 CDN
  8. Shoes – a flat and a heel option: I don’t care whether it’s business or pleasure, I think every woman should travel with both a heel and a flat. I love these neutral shoes from Ann Taylor (left) and Loft (right) which are sadly from their summer collections and no longer available.

Give O.B. Tampons One Period. Period!

As a lifestyle writer and blogger I cover a wide variety of topics but my bread and butter these days seem to be within the area of health and fitness. Covering so many topics that are inter-related to these two categories, I was shocked when one of my followers asked me why I’ve never talked about the topic of menstruation on my site. It doesn’t happen very often but in this instance I actually did not have a response for this young lady. For the next week or so, I asked myself and a few friends if the topic was a bit weird to cover here and especially on social media. Silly I know, because periods are not exactly “taboo” or are they? I mean, making sure I have adequate protection during that time of the month is crucial for me and other women who are running, working out, doing yoga and a slew of other physical activity.

Our first experience with menstruation usually happens between the ages of 10-15 and for majority of our teenage and adult life we experience bleeding and potentially some other unpleasant side effects such as bloating, cramps, acne, fatigue, and moodiness. And as far as I’m concerned, most women, like myself, have probably spent several years trying to find the right protection for their flow and lifestyle, but still nobody has the gull to inquire and ask women what they use during their periods like they may ask another woman what facial cleanser or mascara they use. It never really occurs to us what other women are using until our little friend decides to pay us a visit two days early and we are stuck without a tampon requiring us to ask ask a friend (or a stranger in the bathroom) if they have one. Raise your hand if you have rolled your eyes when someone has given  you a generic tampon [insert raised hand emoji here]. I’ve vowed to never let that happen to me again so regardless whether I’m on my period or not, there are at least two tampons in my bag – which my girlfriends have become thankful for!

Give Us One Period. Period

So I am doing my part in break that cycle. I asked a few gal pals recently if they were satisfied with the products they use during their menstruation and 6/10 times I got a puzzled look followed by, “Not really”.  Funny enough, 40% of the women said they were satisfied with the tampon brand they use and take one guess what they were using. O.B.! I feel into the category of the 60% that weren’t overly content but I think we all could agree that we continued to use the brand(s) we used just because it was something we had got accustomed to.

This also sparked up some conversations of tampons vs maxi pads and I was stunned that some women still are afraid to use tampons these days. Not that there is anything wrong with maxi pads but with my active and busy lifestyle, tampons are just a better fit for me. For years I have been trying different brands that have promised to give me adequate protection, move with my body, perfect for when I am playing sports, blah blah blah. A few years ago I stopped searching for the “perfect tampon” and settled on one brand. However last month I stumbled across some advertising for O.B. Tampons as part of an interesting new campaign asking women to “Give Us One Period. Period.”  O.B. differs from other brands in that they don’t have an applicator so naturally for someone that has a moderate to heavy flow, I was somewhat hesitant to try it out. A few questions immediately entered into my mind. “How do I use it if it doesn’t have an applicator?”, “Is it going to be messy?”, and “OMG this thing is tiny, is it going to give me the protection I need?”

Give Us One Period. Period

I went away on vacation a few weeks ago and got my period the day before departing so I figured this may be the best time to give O.B. a shot. When I’m traveling, space in my purse/carry-on is limited and I also need the confidence that I will be protected while in transit. Not to mention while working out and on the beach wearing my favourite white bikini. Armed with optimism and two boxes of the brand’s tampons (one regular and one super), I headed to the Caribbean. Smaller than the size of my pinky finger, these tampons actually surprised me. Because of it’s size, they were super easy to use and were ultra comfortable. To be honest, so much so, I had almost forgotten I was wearing one a couple times. The design expands to fit each woman’s unique body. On the first I day realized early that I needed to use the Pro Comfort Super for the first two days of my period. With O.B.’s fluid-lock technology has grooves that pull fluid into the core for locked-in leak protection you can wear up to 8 hours – I highly suggest not waiting that long though. For the remainder of my cycle, I switched over to the Pro Comfort Regular, which is great for first time non-applicator tampon users or for women with a light to moderate flow. While on the beach and working out I didn’t want to take any risks and just stuck to the supers, just to be on the safe side.  Not having an applicator allows O.B. tampons to be ridiculously small making them extremely discreet. I was able to fit one into the pocket of my skinniest jeans and the tiny pocket inside my Nike running shorts. Even when my clear/see-thru makeup bag was pulled out of my carry-on at the airport security checkpoint, the couple tampons that were tossed in there went completed undetected by those around me – phew!

Are you willing to give O.B. Tampons a try? I’m giving away boxes to 50 lucky followers who tweet, “@SashaExeter, I want to give @ob_canada one period #GiveUsOnePeriod“. Contest begins today and ends Friday September 18th at 6pm. Winners will be announced and contacted on Monday September 21st – Good luck!

Clinique Targets Millennials For New #FaceForward Campaign

My earliest memory of skin-care products was as a pre-teen seeing a trio of Clinique products on my mother’s bathroom counter. A three-step, foolproof system to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin that she swore by for years: It helped her achieve a beautiful, clear complexion. Fast forward almost 20 years and now the Foaming Sonic Facial Soap, Clarifying Lotion and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel is sitting on my countertop – talk about a full-circle moment! And something tells me there is going to be several other young women turning to Clinique’s iconic trifecta with the launch of its new global campaign, #FaceForward, featuring millennial megastars Hannah Bronfman, Margaret Zhang and Tavi Gevinson. Here’s a sneak peek:

Clinique has tapped these amazing young women, who have had extraordinary achievements at an early age, to encourage others worldwide to face forward – rather than to look back – while sharing their thoughts on achieving their goals, what motivates them in their respective careers and, of course, their go-to beauty products. What exactly does “Face Forward” mean? To me, it means not looking back. We can’t go back in time to make a brand new beginning, but we can start from now to make a brand new ending. Having confidence gives me the ability to look ahead and trust that amazing things are in my future. Some of that confidence comes from feeling physically and mentally strong, from living a healthy lifestyle and having beautiful skin.

Clinique Face Forward

Engaging consumers so they feel a part of the brand is integral in this campaign – which is only one of the reasons I was drawn to it, to be honest. Remember that saying “If I knew then what I know now…”? Well, Clinique’s asking women to share what they would tell their future selves. If I had to tell myself one thing, it would be to not let fear get in the way. Take risks. Try something new. Don’t be scared. Everything you want is on the other side of fear. Now it’s your turn… Make a promise to the future and put it out there. Post a selfie and share what you would tell your future self on social media using the hashtag #FaceForward and tag @clinique.

Deciem Fountain’s Super Green Molecule Supplement Giveaway

Deciem Fountain Molecule

Regular exercise and eating clean are measures that I take to stay healthy but I do have a couple tricks up my sleeve in the form of supplements that are part of my daily regimen that help keep my body running at it’s optimal level. Since introducing Fountain Beauty Supplement’s into my routine six months ago, I have noticed dramatic differences and improvements to my skin, energy level, mood by using the brand’s Hyaluronic, Energy, Super Green, and Beauty and Happy molecules, with the latter being extremely useful during the cold winter months. Developed by the self proclaimed “Abnormal Beauty Company”, Deciem (whose products are manufactured in downtown Toronto) has been quickly gaining notoriety and showing up in beauty reviews in all the top glossy mags and has reminded consumers that although what we put on our bodies topically is important, it’s really what we put inside them that makes the difference.

Deciem Fountain Super Green Molecule

As amazing as all the molecules are, the stand out in the line-up to me right now is the Super Green Molecule, which contains over 40 minerals, 16 amino acids and 11 vitamins . I take the recommended dosage of one teaspoon everyday in either a glass of water or cold pressed juice (if taken directly the dark green colour could stain your tongue). This concoction is a super concentrated beauty and lifestyle supplement of alfalfa chlorophyll, kelp and Deciem’s hyaluronic acid matrix. Chlorophyll has many known benefits; its abundant in vitamins and minerals, has potent antioxidant properties, promotes cleansing, helps control hunger and cravings and enhances overall energy level and general well-being. Like Chlorophyll, kelp is another amazing green that is packed with tons of vitamins and minerals such as; iodine, potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium. It’s known most for its aid in weight management and it’s ability to deliver internal tissue hydration.

Thanks to my friends at Deciem, I am giving away four Super Green Molecules on Twitter to some lucky followers. All you have to do is make sure to follow me and Deciem Fountain on Twitter and tweet, “I want to go green with @DeciemFountain’s Super Green Molecule! #SoSashaxDeciem“. Contest begins today and ends Saturday July 11th at midnight. Winner will be announced via Twitter on Monday. *Contest open to Canadian residents only!

Summer Ready Feet with Dr. Scholl’s Express Pedi Foot Smoother

Medi Express

It should really come as no surprise that keeping my feet callus and blister free has been a challenge. The years of playing tennis, wearing heels and running have finally caught up to me. Plus, the older I get, I’ve noticed the tougher my skin has gotten, making it difficult to keep the bottom of my feet and heels soft.

A year ago I made a conscious decision to be more proactive about my foot care. I mean, these are the only feet I will ever have so the fact that I’m just getting it together in that department is tragic.  I had committed to monthly pedicures at one of Toronto’s most prestigious  spas once a month with a polish change in between when necessary. This worked well in the beginning, however as I increased my running mileage and began training for races, I found the results less effective. Two days after the Nike Women’s 15k race, Dr Scholl’s Micro Pedi Foot Smoother miraculously showed up at my door and the timing couldn’t have been better. My feet were looking rough. I was a skeptic at first, refusing to believe that a small, hand-held device would yield the results I would get at a nail salon. However, after some quick Google research, I discovered that cutting calluses actually causes skin to grow back thicker and faster (gasp!). The Pedi Express seamlessly remedies flakey skin and calluses painlessly by smoothing them away with it’s genius micro grain roller.

Medi Express

When I read the contents of the press release that accompanied the box and saw pedicure tips from Toronto’s reigning nail aficionado and owner of Tips Nail Bar Leanne Colley, I became confident that this had to be the real deal. Her advice for best results, which I clearly took as gospel:

  • For deep cracks in your heels, use Express Pedi for a few minutes each day. Once most of the dryness is gone, use 2-3 times a week to maintain smooth skin.
  • Applying a little bit of pressure when using Express Pedi will make for the softest skin and increase battery life.
  • Before applying polish to your nails, clean off residue using a lint-free pad and acetone to avoid pesky fibres cotton balls tend to leave behind. Don’t forget to apply a base coat and paint away!

Express PediPhotography by Nathalia Allen –

Here’s the skinny: I have used the Express Pedi every single day for almost a week and I am already seeing a dramatic difference to the skin on my heels, balls of my feet and the outer corners of my big toe, where majority of the hardened skin has developed. It’s definitely not time to scale back to two times a week yet, but I will be tracking my improvement until the end of the month. The July issue of InStyle Magazine has a few useful tips on how to make a pedicure last which I also plan to implement into my “at-home foot care” routine. The Express Medi’s compact size will make it super easy for me to bring along when I travel and the fact that it came equipped with batteries is definitely a bonus. Dr Scholl’s Express Pedi Foot Smoother ranges between $40-45 CDN and is now available at Loblaws, Walmart, Rexall, London Drugs and Home Hardware store locations nationwide. Beauty Review | Simple Skincare On The Go

I am officially into the swing of outdoor running season and the temperatures here in the city are finally starting to rise, which means a lot more sweating and clogged pores. Over the last couple months I have been busy with tons of photo shoots, fitness activations, run groups and such so it is extremely important for me to take good care of my skin to avoid unwanted breakouts. My skin is sensitive and prone to acne if I don’t keep my pores clean. I can admit that I have been guilty a few times of leaving makeup on prior to a run and paid the cost for the makeup and sweat seeping into my pores the next day.

I have gotten smart and armed myself with the right skincare arsenal that I now keep on hand in my bag when I am heading to the gym or to run club. These simple (no pun intended) things have helped not only keep unnecessary pimples and zits at bay but have also help to improve my skin. If you’re like me and are into all-natural products that still do the work of other cleansers/makeup removers, you will love Simple Skincare’s Cleansing Micellar Water. It contains the perfect blend of multi-vitamins and super gentle cleansers to help clean the skin while simultaneously removing makeup. With no parabens, artificial colours, scents, perfumes or chemicals that could be harsh on skin. Whether I have makeup on or not, I like to use Simple’s Cleaning Facial Wipes first to remove excess oil, dirt and makeup, then my go-to exfoliating face wash followed by the Micellar Water.

Cleansing Micellar Water

How To Use

  1. Apply a liberal amount of the Cleansing Micellar Water to a cotton ball or pad
  2. Gently rub the cotton ball/pad all over your face
  3. Softly wipe over closed eyes and make sure to not get any of the product in your eyes

There is no rinsing necessary which makes this the perfect cleansing product when you’re on the go. In addition to using these products topically on my skin, I also like to make sure that I am drinking plenty of water as well. In order to help me get my average daily intake, I like to infuse it  with either cucumbers or lemons. The latter is good as a detoxifier, which are also great for the skin. Beauty Review | Dove’s Revolutionary Dry Spray Antiperspirant

Dove Dry Spray

I may be adventurous and willing to try new things, especially when it comes to fashion but there are a few things I am hesitant to play around with. One of those being my antiperspirant. My lifestyle is crazy busy and when my days consists of long hours of meetings, photo shoots, events and sometimes multiple workouts, I can’t leave that to chance. For as long as I can remember, I have used the same deodorant and while I didn’t have major issues when it came to protecting me against sweat, I did however find the collection of white residue under my arms and traces of deodorant on my clothes super annoying.

If you were to rummage through my bathroom cabinets, you will find a ton of personal care products from the Dove family. Everything from hair care, body washes and their beauty bars…all but their antiperspirant until now. For the last month I’ve been testing out the brand’s newest technology, a dry spray deodorant. I will admit, I was hesitant to try it at first based on my preconceived notions on non-stick deodorants, but figured if I love all of Dove’s other products, there’s a high probability I could love this too. Dove’s Dry Spray Antiperspirant is simply just that. A spray that goes on instantly dry – not to be confused with regular aerosol deodorants on the market that go on wet and can irritate delicate underarm skin. This revolutionary product is the first antiperspirant spray that contains 1/4 moisturizers. A welcomed feature for me as I’ve noticed that area can become dry from excessive shaving. Not only do each of the four variants smell heavenly, but somehow the Dove team figured out a way for this spray to provide 48 hour protection.

Using it is easy. First, shake the can well before each use and hold it approximately 15 cm’s from your underarm. Spray for 2 seconds – that’s it! So here’s the skinny…I literally put Dove’s dry spray through the ringer. It survived my crazy hectic workdays and long training runs. My underarms are frequently on display when I work out and during photo shoots so I was thrilled to not have any deodorant residue visible, especially showing up in photos – something that has happened a few times in the past. Dove was not kidding about the extended protection. I come home at the end of the day still feeling as fresh and dry as I did when I left in the morning.  Dove Dry Spray is available now in four scents; Beauty, Revive, Cool Essentials and Original (the jasmine, freesia and water lily notes in the Beauty scent is my fave!) and can be found at most major food and drug retailers nationwide for around $5.99. In case you missed it, check out my Rudsak experience with Dove at World Mastercard Fashion Week here. For more information on Dove and it’s products, head to

Staying Dry and Fresh With Dove at Fashion Week

WMCFW Dove Dry Spray

I am often asked questions around which beauty products are the most important in my daily routine or items I can’t live without and people are often stunned when I mention my antiperspirant. Most women would normally call out a cult fave concealer, the season’s “it-colour” lippy or a super hydrating moisturizer – which in actuality are all great too, but with my crazy busy and active lifestyle, I can’t express the importance of having adequate protection from my deodorant.

WMCFW Dove Dry Spray

Dove Dry Spray

WMCFW Dove Dry Spray

I have been given the opportunity to begin testing out Dove’s latest innovation within beauty over the last week  – a dry spray antiperspirant. With a hectic schedule last week with travel, photo shoots and World MasterCard Fashion Week, it couldn’t have been a more opportune time to try out this new way to stay dry. If you attended any of the shows in the tents at David Pecault Square, you probably saw that the brand had set up shop giving out samples to Toronto’s most fashionable to test out at home. Pretty brilliant idea on Dove’s part actually as complaints about deodorant residue are not uncommon in the fashion industry; especially from stylists, editors, models and designers. I flew in just in time to catch the Rudsak Fall/Winter 2015 show with my fashion friends. Known for their drool-worthy outerwear and leather pieces, Rudsak is truly one of my fave Canadian brands and a show I look forward to each season.

RUDSAK_FW15Photos by Nathalia Allen –

Yes, eliminating visible residue is a great bonus for sure but personally I am more concerned with making sure the deodorant I use works with my body chemistry and can provide me with the protection I need to get me through a busy day of meetings, events, workouts at Equinox and runs with my crew. Truth be told, in the past I have stuck to stick deodorants in fear that a spray on antiperspirant would leave behind a sticky or wet feeling, but  Dove’s extensive R&D team have found a way to make this product go on instantly dry when it touches the skin. With a long day of travel and being under stress rushing to the tents for photos, interviews and the show, I was astonished that not only was I kept dry and smelling great the entire day, my black clothing did not reveal a trace of white residue.  For all you other women “on-the-go” like me, you will be happy to know that Dove Dry Spray has been formulated specially to provide us with 48 hour protection and 1/4 moisturizer technology, making sticks and gels a thing of the past.

I am going to continue testing out Dove’s Dry Spray for the next couple of weeks and will be reporting back on my thoughts, so stay tuned. Dove’s four Dry Spray variants; Beauty Finish, Cool Essentials, Revive and Original Scent can be found in most Drug, Food and Mass retailers now across Canada and retails for $5.99. Join in on the social conversation with @DoveCanada by following along on Twitter and Instagram or posting your Dove Dry Spray images by using the hashtag #TryDry.

Relax and Reset in the Spa at Equinox

Equinox Spa

Achieving optimal physical results means not only do have to train hard, but you also must make time for recovery. For the last couple of months I have been pushing my body to the limits with high-intensity group classes at Equinox however I have made sure to carve out time in my schedule to enhance my performance with the spa services at the luxe Bay Street location.

Equinox Lounge

As you can imagine there are several benefits to having access to spa services at the gym. Not only is it extremely convenient but it can also be very motivating. I would be lying if I said I’ve never treated myself to one of the services for surpassing my weekly fitness goals. More importantly, it’s pretty amazing to have spa staff that have an understanding of not only the facility’s group classes but also your personal training program. Having this knowledge allows you to have tailored treatments based on your workouts that will help speed up recovery, enhance your performance and achieve your fitness goals. By knowing the muscles used during my weekly METCON 3, Stacked and boxing classes, RMT Maria Kovatchev is able to give my body the attention and treatment it needs.

Equinox Toronto

With massage, facials and specialty services – think body wraps, bronzing, laser hair removal, nails, teeth and even lash treatments, Equinox’s highly skilled team has you covered. Similar to the other high end amenities used on the premises, their best in class treatments involve only superior products and there’s literally something for everyone on the spa menu.  You can check out the full list of services here.  With chocolate, strawberry and caviar indulgence facials now on the menu, a gift card to the Equinox spa makes a great gift idea for someone special (or yourself) on Valentine’s Day (non-members welcome).

My Winter Weekend With Mogo

Art Gallery of Ontario Suzy Lake Exhibit

It’s January so essentially this means two things; 1) we are in the midst of a deep freeze here in Toronto and 2) it’s the start of a new year and time to set new goals for 2015. I don’t necessarily believe in New Year’s resolutions, which simply means I never wait for January 1st to put my plans into action. This year I want to be more fiscally responsible and make better decisions because debt is really not cute. With the winter elements in full effect, I spent the day with hitting up some of the spots I like to frequent on the weekends. My Mogo Prepaid Visa® Card made it easy to treat myself and my crew. With no monthly fees and over 40 unique card designs to choose from, Mogo’s Prepaid Visa® Card helps you control your spending (I mean, we can all do with a little help in that department, right?) and avoid the aftershock of credit card debt.

Mildred's Temple Kitchen PancakesMrs. Biederhof’s Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes

We Torontonians take brunching very seriously and Mildred’s Temple Kitchen in Liberty Village is one of my go-to spots to indulge on a weekend in the city. MTK is the offshoot of cult fave Mildred Pierce where local foodies happily noshed brunch fare for 17 years on Sudbury Street. The sleek and airy interior is perfect for a third date or family brekkie with food items that are sure to satisfy even the pickiest of palettes. Brunch is served Saturday & Sunday from 10-3pm. I hit up Mildred’s with my parents around 10:30 to arrive before the hungover crowd stumbled in for brunch and “hair of the dog”. What you should order… The fresh baked scones & biscuits are to die for, the Manhandler is a great option for meat lovers, their delish rosemary bacon which is cured in-house is always a treat. Everyone and I mean everyone, heads to this spot for Mrs. Biederhof’s legendary light & fluffy blueberry buttermilk pancakes. Click here to check out the full menu.

If you’ve visited Toronto or even worse, live in Toronto and have not been to the Art Gallery of Ontario, in my opinion you should be punished. If I could, I would come here daily to take in the phenomenal exhibits, dine at Frank (the gallery’s famed resto) and just people watch. There is so much goodness currently happening in side. Plus, the common spaces designed by world renown and Toronto born architect Frank Gehry makes phenomenal backdrops for photos. Type in the hashtag #ArtGalleryOfOntario on Instagram and you are bound to find tons of inspiring and artistic photos and selfies. The Michelangelo: Quest for Genius exhibit just ended on January 11th but for those interested in conceptual photography, “Introducing Suzy Lake is a photo retrospective by the artist that is not to be missed. If you happen to be a die-hard Jean-Michel Basiquat fan like myself then buckle up.  From February 7 – May 10 2015, the AGO will be the home to an exclusive showcase which will be the first thematic examination of the artist’s work; guest curated by Austrian historian and Curator Dieter Buchhart. The opening night party, which is the hottest ticket in town right now, is already sold out. Tickets for general exhibition are currently on sale for AGO members and public tickets go on sale January 23, 2015. Her Majesty’s Pleasure – 556 King Street West (inside Fashion House) Toronto 416-546-4991 Neighbourhood: King West

Her Majesty's Pleasure

I honestly couldn’t have thought up a  more brilliant idea myself. Her Majesty’s Pleasure on King St West will forever change the way you get your mani/pedi. When I heard rumours of a spot in the city late last year where one could get their nails, hair and a facial done, but also acts as a cocktail bar, cafe and retail boutique all rolled up in one, I had to see it for myself. I popped in for a few hours early in the evening after my trip to the AGO with my friend/photographer/unicorn Nathalia for manis, eats and cocktails (fresh pressed juices for me). My instagram followers are fully aware of my obsession with pretty floor tiling and the tile design at HMP didn’t disappoint. With ultra high ceilings, white walls, carrara marble topped tables/bars and eccentric furnishings, every single square foot of space in there is instagrammable. Naturally, we found ourselves lingering long after our food was finished and nails were dry. Ladies, this is the PERFECT spot for a girls night out or bridal party. Make sure to call ahead to book an appointment to avoid disappointment.
