Luxe Leather by J.Crew Collection | What I’m Wearing

J.Crew Leather Skirt

Real fans of J.Crew are already well aware of the brand’s “Lust List” pieces they launch under their separate and exclusive line,  J.Crew Collection. For those who are unfamiliar with this hidden gem, J.Crew’s Creative Director and internal ambassador Jenna Lyons explains that, “the Collection started as an idea of taking the classic elements of what we do at J.Crew and giving you a psychedelic, amped-up version of that.” Although the price points are significantly higher than regular J.Crew; you can expect to pay anywhere between $210-800 for skirts, $198-750 for pants and $350-1,200 for jackets…from season to season I cannot help myself from making a few purchases.

J.Crew Leather Collection Skirt

This lambskin skirt was actually purchased two seasons ago and has sat in my closet ever since waiting for it’s debut…proving that both the oxblood and leather trends are here to stay. Although this skirt is no longer available, J.Crew Collection has some super chic leather items this season that I felt compelled to share. For a line that doesn’t specialize in leather they are sure giving legit leather brands a run for their money. Are you a leather lover? Then these should be on your wishlist this season: Collection Leather Motorcycle Jacket, Collection Leather Shorts, Collection Fluted Leather Skirt, Collection Metallic Leather Pencil Skirt, and the Collection Leather Pant.

J.Crew x Sophia Webster Capsule Footwear Collection Debuts During NYFW

J Crew x Sophia WebsterThe last few days have been extremely busy with TIFF related events and I didn’t anticipate doing much blogging until the film fest madness was over but an exception had to be made once I caught wind of the news that British shoe Designer, and one-time Nicolas Kirkwood apprentice, has teamed up with one of my all time fave brands J. Crew to create a capsule collection which debuts this morning during J. Crew’s Spring ’14 presentation at New York Fashion Week.

If you’re unfamiliar with Sophia Webster and her pieces of artwork (seriously get it together and go to her site), I think the words whimsical, fun, imaginative and playful would be the best way to describe her footwear, which isn’t quite how one would describe the J. Crew aesthetic. But, I am confident that the brand’s Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, knows exactly what she is doing when she decided to team up with the Designer who was named one of the Top 100 People to Watch on The Times 2013 Power List and also named Emerging Footwear Designer of the Year by Condé Nast Footwear News . When asked what she thinks about Sophia’s work, Lyons states, “Webster’s shoes are a beautiful world for your feet to live in.”

J Crew x Sophia WebsterWhat we can expect from the collection: 12 shoe styles in a variety of patters and colours that will compliment J. Crew’s trends for next Spring, which will consist of patent leather, polka dot prints, florals, bright taffeta fabrics and a palette of blues…according to WWD. Collection set to launch online and in select stores in 2014.

Style Spotlight | Jenna Lyons: The Woman Who Dresses America

Style Spotlight: Jenna Lyons

Towering, at what seems to be at 7 ft. tall, Jenna Lyons is certainly hard to miss with her ultra thin frame, signature middle part, go-to black box framed glasses, that has almost become as synonymous in fashion as Anna Wintour’s bob…she still was not a house hold name I would say until the First Lady Michelle Obama began appearing at press conferences clad in J.Crew’s classic American apparel. As the Creative Director of the $1.9 billion US brand, Lyons has made headlines for issues outside her design realm when Page Six exhaustively covered her split from her husband Vincent Martin, of Depeche Mode fame, and her current relationship with Courtney Cranghi (yes, she is now a lesbian – and currently resides with her and son Beckett in SoHo), which left New Yorkers tongues wagging. But I don’t find it fair for her personal life to trump her successes as a business woman and how her style has redefined “American Chic”.

After reading up on the geek-chic princess, I discovered that Lyons just celebrated her 22nd anniversary with J.Crew this past December, so basically half her life has been dedicated to the company. As a graduate of Parsons School of Design in NYC, she got her start as an assistant designer in menswear and slowly worked her way up over the last two decades to where she is now also the President (since 2010). I think she literally “IS” J.Crew in a sense – she is responsible for every aspect of the company from the print catalogs, website and the store’s aesthetics. Ms. Lyons is the one solely responsible for taking the label from an inexpensive, preppy brand to how North American women “want” to dress.

But let’s get back to the fashion…with her statuesque frame, it’s almost impossible for this lady to look bad, let’s be real, but I just adore her ability to be able to fully work juxtaposed looks with varying colours, textures and fabrics. I sometimes wake up in the morning wishing I could be as cool as her – no chance in life BTW! But I am feeling that I may alter my look this coming spring with a center part in my hair and a pair of nerdy Warby Parker glasses in attempts to mimic her look! Mixing sequins with breton stripes, brocade trousers with denim shirts, denim on denim (otherwise known as the Canadian Tuxedo according The Coveteur), even a jean jacket with a Schiaparelli pink full length skirt to the MET ball, she is an effing fashion champion in my eyes.

…And without further adieu, here are some my fave Jenna Lyons style moments, in no particular order:
